Spray Painting

A majority of spray-painting jobs undertaken at Unique Skin Coatings are for automotive restoration jobs. Each job is unique, which means each quote is unique. We take into consideration variations such as:

  • full body restorations or partial parts (e.g. sun damaged bonnets)

  • closed door or open-door spray

  • the expected level of paint quality when complete (e.g. custom high-end vs standard factory setting paint work).

Below are some recent examples of work we have completed.

Things to consider when asking for a quote

Difference between a closed-door spray and an open-door spray

Open door spray paint job

Open door spray paint job, the doors are removed or opened to allow for easier access to the interior edges and surfaces of the car. Typically, we find this option is more common for full restorations, completely different colour changes or vintage vehicles. This option requires more time and is more expensive due to the amount of labour involved removing and refitting the doors and components.

Closed door spray paint job

Closed door spray paint job, the doors remain closed during the painting process. Typically, this is selected when cars are getting a refresh paint job applied in the same colour and/or where painting the inside of the doors and door jams are not required. This option also helps to reduce costs as less labour is required.

Difference between a custom high-end paint job and a standard factory paint job

Custom high-end paint job

A custom high-end paint job on a car can involve unique colour choices, special effects like metallic or pearl finishes, intricate designs or patterns, and potentially hand-painted details. These types of paint jobs require more time, skill, and expertise to execute and can be significantly more expensive than a standard factory paint job. We typically see this level of paint work on a luxury high-end vehicle, or vintage motor vehicles undergoing a full restoration.

Standard factory paint job

A standard factory paint job is what you receive when buying direct for a dealership with no add-ons. The colour range is limited and is best suited to your standard family and/or work motor vehicles. Whilst considered standard, the quality and durability of the paint work is more than acceptable. This option is more cost effective when compared to custom and can be achieved within a timely manner. We typically see this option selected on second hand cars which need a fresh repaint to bring it back to life.
